A Thought for Thursday - 1st Thursday in Lent 2024

What sort of church do we want to be?

In a speech delivered recently at a conference in Florence, Pope Francis said:

"[I] want a Catholic Church which is humble and poor rather than obsessed with power and money."  He went on to say; "I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security."

I look forward to the day when all churches in the Anglican Communion and all churches everywhere can think and act in this way for surely this is much closer to the way of Jesus than what we have now.

Peace, justice and blessings to all.
